Authorities Charge Teen with Murder of Woman Found in Blendon Twp. Park
BLENDON TOWNSHIP, Ohio (Ken Hines) -- Police have arrested a teen in connection with the murder of a woman who was stabbed to death while running through a Franklin County park.
Authorities are holding 16-year-old Jordan Stewart at the Franklin County Juvenile Detention Center on a murder charge related to the fatal stabbing of Jane E. Juergens, 55, near the entry to a walking trail at Ridgewood Park on Sunday evening.
Investigators believe Stewart -- a resident at a nearby group home -- stabbed Juergens several times in the chest after walking into a wooded area of the park during an outing organized by group home staff members.
One of those employees called 911 after Stewart emerged from the woods with scratches on his body and a bruise under his right eye, according to police.
Stewart has a history of mental illness and criminal behavior, and was admitted to the group home after his grandmother determined she could not control him.
The teen has attempted to commit suicide on at least three occasions, according to court documents.
Stewart appeared before a juvenile court judge on Monday, but will ultimately be tried as an adult if a prosecutorial motion is granted.
Friends described Juergens as a mother who enjoyed running and dancing.
