Humane Agents Seize 13 Cats from Merion Village Home

COLUMBUS (Ken Hines) -- Humane agents have seized more than a dozen cats from a Merion Village-area home declared unsafe due to the mess found inside.

Agents removed at least 13 cats from Barbara Beavans's S. 4th St. home on Wednesday morning. The animals were then transferred to the Capital Area Humane Society.

"They had three humane society trucks here, and they were full of cat carriers," neighbor Demetrio Sena said.

The home's unsanitary conditions were discovered when humane agents entered the house to check on the cats following Beavans's hospitalization for an undisclosed illness.

Beavans faces several charges related to the condition of her home, as well as the health of her cats. She is scheduled to appear in environmental court on Friday.
