Hilliard Police Identifies Officer Accused of Having Sex on the Job
COLUMBUS (Maria Durant/Kate Liebers) -- Hilliard police have identified the man accused of having sex while on the job as Officer David Burck, who is now on leave.
The accusations come from an anonymous complaint that states Burck has been having sex at Hilliard City parks with two different women. One of the women cited in the complaint was arrested by Burck in 2009 on assault charges, Hilliard Police Chief Doug Francis said.
Francis said his office takes a complaint like this seriously.
We contacted the women involved and, based on the ladies and the officer, there is cause to warrant a formal investigation, Francis said. These are allegations that, if they are true, are unacceptable behavior of our staff.
The investigation aims to determine whether Burck violated a work policy or code. Francis said the department will also look into whether a crime has been committed.
Burcks personnel files reveal his superiors have commended his work for much of his 10 years on the force. This year, however, his records suggest some performance problems, including a complaint of speeding through a school zone and an on-duty crash that totaled his cruiser.
Francis said he was aware of Burcks failing performance.
In this case, something caused his performance to drop and we were trying to identify and work through the complaints made.
The chief said they hope to conclude the investigation within 30 days.
