Phony Deputy Trying to Scam Grove City Businesses
GROVE CITY (Jen French/Ken Hines) -- Business owners want police to catch a phony deputy who is trying to scam them out of money.
Grove City investigators say a man pretending to be a peace officer approached two Southwest Blvd. businesses on October 3, asking for money to give to veterans.
Both Fady Abuayyash, who owns Fast Stop Drive Thru, and Virgil McDaniel, who owns MTK's Auto Detailing, called police after refusing to give cash to the suspect.
"It's bad for our business around here, McDaniel said. We're working hard to make something for our families. We don't have money for someone just to take from us."
If caught, the suspect could be charged with impersonating a police officer.
Anyone with information about the crimes is encouraged to contact Grove City police at 614-277-1700.
