Burglar(s) Steal Baby's Ashes from Parents' Marion Home
MARION (Ken Hines) -- Grieving parents hope police will find the person or people responsible for a burglary during which the ashes of their infant son were stolen from their home.
Saundra Winkle and her boyfriend returned to their Marion apartment on Sunday to find the front door wide open.
Upon entering the home, the couple discovered several missing items, including televisions and food, but were devastated to find that the thief or thieves had stolen an urn containing the ashes of their son, Layton, who died a day after he was born in February, 2012.
Winkle said she and her boyfriend thought about their late son every day when they looked at the urn.
"When we had a storm, we thought a tornado was going to hit, so we took his ashes with us," Winkle said. "We didn't leave him here."
Marion police will examine fingerprints found inside the apartment, as well as complex security footage, in their effort to identify those responsible for the burglary.
