Columbus Police Looking for Suspected Meat Thief
COLUMBUS (Maria Durant/Ken Hines) -- Police are trying to find a man suspected of stealing large amounts of meat from central Ohio grocery stores.
Investigators believe Alan Hobbs is responsible for the theft of hundreds of dollars worth of meat from two Columbus Kroger locations.
Its large quantities of meat, and its obviously not for personal use," said Asst. City Prosecutor Bill Hedrick, who believes the suspect is likely selling the food he steals.
Hobbs's capture is a priority among law enforcement officers, due to the risk of health problems associated with the unregulated sale of meat, according to Hedrick.
"Who know how long he has this meat before he sells it to someone else," Hedrick said. "In this case, he also took shrimp products. Not only is he stealing, but he could be getting people sick.
Hobbs has been arrested for theft on at least 15 prior occasions. Anyone with information about his whereabouts is encouraged to contact the Columbus Division of Police at 614-645-4545.
