Accused Bus Stop Rapist Arrested
COLUMBUS (Adam Slinger) -- A man, who police say raped an East Columbus woman Monday morning while she was holding her three-year-old daughter, has been caught.
The victim, who asked that her name not be used, told ABC/FOX28 that she was waiting for the Number 16 COTA bus at the intersection of Long Street and Ohio Avenue with her daughter when a man grabbed her from behind.
He then forced her around the corner of vacant business, saying he would shoot her if she tried to run, she said.
The victim said she held onto the child throughout the entire sexual assault.
"The only thing that was running through my mind was trying to confront her, keep her at ease."
The man eventually walked the woman and the child back to the bus stop.
"He said, 'If you tell the police, I'll kill you.'"
The victim said she recognized the man from the area, but never had a conversation with him.
Once she boarded the bus, she contacted police.
On Wednesday, Columbus police arrested their prime suspect, Ronald Ayers, 34, at an apartment complex about three miles east of the bus stop after a neighbor alerted them.
Ayers is facing kidnapping and rape charges.
The victim picked Ayers out of a photo lineup.
"As soon as they showed me his picture, I knew that was him. I will never forget that face."
She said she hopes her daughter doesn't remember the attack, but concedes the child is currently having nightmares.
