OSU Band Viral Again After Hollywood-Themed Show
COLUMBUS (Lu Ann Stoia/Ken Hines) -- The OSU Marching Band struck YouTube gold for a second consecutive week with a star-studded performance during Saturday's halftime show.
The band followed up their tribute to Michael Jackson -- complete with a now-famous moonwalk performance -- with a movie-themed show that featured a T-Rex (in honor of "Jurassic Park") during halftime of the game against Penn St.
Both routines have gone viral, and have led to a spike in the sale of OSU band-related music and memorabilia at campus-area stores.
"All over the nation, people are talking about the Ohio State University Band," said Judi Mormol, co-owner of Conrad's Gifts, where customers are flocking to pick up a wide array of band-themed items, including hats, shirts, and even garden gnomes.
In addition to its prehistoric star, Saturday's routine -- which has been viewed more than 2 million times on YouTube -- featured a recreation of a battle from "Pirates of the Caribbean", complete with the sinking of a ship named, of course, Michigan.
"I know we are in the national spotlight," OSU trumpet player Mark Bowling said. "But all I really focus on is making the next show as good as the last one."
Band members were given the day off Monday, ahead of their trip to Indiana for Saturday's game against Purdue.
