Ohio Minimum Wage to Rise Due to Inflation
COLUMBUS (Ken Hines) -- A rise in inflation will mean an extra dime per hour for many Ohio minimum wage workers in 2014.
Minimum wage for non-tipped employees will rise from $7.85 per hour to $7.95 per hour on January 1, 2014. Tipped workers will be paid a minimum of $3.98 in 2014, up a nickle from this year.
The changes will affect only businesses that gross more than $292,000 per year.
The rise is the result of an Ohio Constitutional amendment passed in November, 2006 that ties the state's minimum wage to inflation rates.
The minimum wage at businesses that gross less than $292,000 will remain at the federally rate of $7.25 per hour.
