UPDATED: Woman shot on West Side

COLUMBUS (Ashley Yore/Kate Liebers) A woman was shot in a home later doused in gasoline Thursday morning in West Columbus, police reported.

The two unidentified male suspects are still at large.

Columbus Police said the residence at 97 Hayden Avenue, where the woman was shot, is a well-known drug home.

The woman and her boyfriend were visiting the Hayden Avenue residents, an elderly man in a wheelchair and his girlfriend, police reported. They said two masked men followed the couple inside and fought with the man in the wheelchair.

The woman was shot in her side during that fight, police said. The suspects then sprayed the living room with an accelerant, but never lit the home on fire. Detectives are unsure whether the suspects intended to burn the woman or the house.

The woman was rushed to Mt. Carmel West, where she is now in stable condition. Her identity has not been released.

The suspects fled the home before officers arrived.

Homicide and arson detectives as well as a K-9 unit are on the scene. One witness who was sprayed with the accelerant turned his clothes over as evidence.
