Junior League Concerned Over Future of Veterans Memorial
DOWNTOWN COLUMBUS (Jen French)-- A volunteer organization may have to look for a new venue for its events due to the uncertain future of Veterans Memorial.
For years, the Junior League of Columbus has been using the facility for its annual Bargain Box rummage sale. Money raised goes towards community projects.
Franklin County Commissioners and the Columbus Downtown Development Corporation want to tear down and build a new Veterans Memorial as part of the Scioto Peninsula redevelopment plan.
"It gives certainly and uncertainty to what this project will look like," Karlye Martin said, Junior League President.
It's a deal some shoppers arent sold on.
"I have no idea where you'd find space as big as this is to put all of the items that they have here, Donna Thimdit said.
If approved, demolition would begin in spring 2014. The cost and architectural designs for the new memorial have not been finalized.
