Police Charge Franklin Co. Man with Abuse of Autistic Boy
SHARON TWP., Ohio (Ken Hines) -- Investigators charged a Franklin County man with felonious assault after, they say, he admitted to hitting a 5-year-old autistic boy.
A judge set Christopher Rhodes's bail amount at $50,000 on Tuesday, three days after the young victim's grandmother told a 911 dispatcher she discovered serious bruising on the boy's body which led to his hospitalization.
Rhodes is dating the boy's mother, according to investigators, who say children's services workers were made aware of the alleged abuse on Friday night.
"Children services had been contacted by the boy's school, and a case worker had also contacted the mother," Sharon Twp. Police Chief Donald Schwind said. "A case worker was supposed to come out at some point in the future. We didn't know when that was."
Rhodes has been ordered to avoid contact with the young victim, whom he admitted to striking, according to police.
