Police Call off Search for Possibly-Missing Child at SW Columbus Park
COLUMBUS (Adam Slinger) -- Police scoured acres of land at Big Run Park on Wednesday afternoon and evening, searching for any signs of a missing girl.
Around 1:00 p.m., a witness called Columbus Police, saying he saw a man and woman walk into the woods with a little girl, no more than five years old.
Approximately 20 minutes later, the couple emerged from the woods, but the child did not, according to the witness, who claimed the couple then drove away in a white pickup truck.
Officers evacuated the park and searched the area with their police dogs, bicycle teams, mounted units, and a helicopter, but found no evidence to suggest that something suspicious occurred. The park was reopened at approximately 5:30 p.m.
The witness described the girl as Caucasian, three to five-years-old, with sandy brown hair, and wearing a purple hoodie.
Even though no evidence was found, police are asking for assistance from anyone with information about the couple, and/or the child, whom detectives are hoping to confirm as safe.
Anyone with information is encouraged to call the Columbus Division of Police at (614) 645-4545.
