Stabbing Victim Found Dead in E. Columbus
COLUMBUS (Ken Hines) -- Police believe a fight outside an East Side apartment building may have led to the fatal stabbing of a man identified as a groundskeeper by residents.
A woman found the victim's body on Wednesday morning in a stairwell of the N. Hampton Ave. building, where the man was soon pronounced dead by police.
"I tapped his foot, 'Are you are okay?'" said Scherell Tyler, who discovered the victim's body. "He was stiff, so I tapped him again. [He] didn't move or respond to me. I called the P.D."
Police have identified a suspect who is believed to live in the building, and may have been involved in an altercation with the victim before the murder occurred.
Officers forced their way into the suspect's apartment -- the door of which was blocked by a chair -- but have been unable to locate the man, whose identity has not been released.
The victim worked at the building, and was well-liked by the majority of its residents, according to Tyler.
