Pre-Halloween Sweep Leads to 13 Arrests
COLUMBUS (James Jackson/Kate Liebers) Before children go door-to-door looking for treats, officers went door-to-door looking for criminals.
A two-day crime sweep spanning Franklin County neighborhoods, dubbed Operation October Surprise, has led to the arrests of 13 people.
The investigators targeted areas in southeast Columbus as they tracked down violent offenders as well as those suspected of child-related crimes. The sweep was conducted days before Halloween celebrations would send children into the streets in droves.
Historically, there have always been concerns about the safety of our children and we are also targeting individuals who have been arrested or who have warrants on them for child pornography, Franklin County Sheriff Zach Scott said.
Sheriffs deputies have warrants out for more than 120 people. The 13 suspects arrested in the sweep are being held at the Jackson Pike Correctional Facility.
