Columbus School Board Member Agrees to Pay Restitution to District
COLUMBUS (Ken Hines) -- A Columbus City Schools board member has been reprimanded and ordered to pay restitution after profiting from a contract between the district and her husband's company.
Ohio Ethics Commission members reached a settlement with Columbus City Schools (CCSD) Board Member Hanifah Kambon that will result in her payment of $11,500 in restitution to the district.
The settlement came after an investigation into profits received by Kambon from four contracts between CCSD and Virtual Leadership Institute (VLI), a company operated by her husband, Ako.
Commission members approved the settlement after concluding that Kambon did not influence the awarding of the contracts to her husband's company, which occurred before her membership with the CCSD board began.
