Accused Delaware Co. Corrections Officer Testifies in Child Rape Trial
DELAWARE COUNTY (Ken Hines) -- A corrections officer standing trial for the alleged rape of a young girl defended himself on the witness stand on Tuesday morning.
Randy Spencer faces four counts of rape in connection with the alleged sexual assault of a five-year-old girl inside the home he shares with his girlfriend, who ran a daycare inside the house.
In court Tuesday, the Delaware County corrections officer denied that he forced the girl to perform oral sex on him in April, 2013 while his girlfriend visited a tanning salon.
Spencer testified that he reported the abuse claim to a supervisor before he was charged, and said he was upset about the allegation.
"I was scared. I wanted to cooperate in any manner in which we needed to," he said. "I was very distraught -- having difficulty breathing at times."
Spencer's girlfriend, Katelyn Currier, also testified Tuesday, admitting to prosecutors that she never asked other children under her care if they had been abused by her boyfriend.
"I never thought that Randy could ever do anything like this," she said.
Spencer has been placed on unpaid leave by the county while he stands trial.
