Victim: Friend Involved in Violent Linden-Area Robbery
COLUMBUS (Steve Levine/Ken Hines) -- A man who was assaulted and robbed while assisting a friend with an errand says itll be a long time before he lends another helping hand.
Wallace Duke was knocked unconscious Monday Afternoon at a Linden neighborhood apartment complex, leaving the 68-year-old with welts on his head and face.
Police say two gunman attacked Duke as he exited his car after dropping a friend off at her home.
In addition to the assault, the attackers stole Duke's cell phone, wallet, and car.
After they knocked me in the head, they kicked me," Duke said. "I now have a big knot in the back of my neck."
Duke received some good news while recovering Wednesday night, when police found his stolen car and valuables after pulling the vehicle over on Cleveland Ave.
Unfortunately for Duke, that bit of good news came with the shocking revelation that the woman behind the wheel of his car was the friend he had dropped off at home shortly before he was robbed.
I never thought she would do this, said Duke, who believes his friend set him up.
Columbus Police say a woman was taken into questioning after the stolen car was pulled over by officers, but no charges have been filed.
The two men wanted for robbing and beating Duke remain on the loose.
