Slain Galloway Teen's Parents Wait for Justice
COLUMBUS (Steve Levine/Ken Hines) -- Five years after a Galloway teenager was shot to death following a late night prank, the investigation into his murder remains at a standstill.
Garrett Burton was murdered in August 2008, near Hilliard-Rome Rd, while picking up egg shells along the side of the road. Police say the 16-year old was shot to death execution style by an unidentified suspect after throwing eggs at cars with friends.
Was that really necessary? Garretts father, George Burton, who is a retired Columbus Police Officer. To shoot that boy in the head?
Garrett was murdered three days after he began his junior year at Westland High School, where he was an active member of the student body.
I have stopped asking why, because I know he is in a better place," Garretts mother, Patti Burton, said. I still get sad sometimes. I am not saying I dont cry -- I can now look at pictures and smile.
The Columbus Police Cold Case Unit has been investigating the case since last year, and said there are no fresh leads or suspects.
Anyone who may have inside information about the case is asked to leave an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers at 614-461-TIPS.
