Three People Hospitalized After Two Boats Crash
LICKING COUNTY (James Jackson) -- Three people are recovering tonight, after two speed boats collided in the water. It happened at Buckeye Lake, near Avondale Road, in Licking County.
A restaurant manager saw the crash and rushed to help. Jeff Craiglow works at Papa Boos restaurant, on Avondale. He was bussing tables, around 6:45, and noticed the collision, about 100 yards from the dock outside.
That's when he and a first responder, who was also at the restaurant, jumped on another boat to help. "We asked them to kind of just step to the side in their boat and we just kind of commandeered their boat and we headed out to the site. But, there was just more adrenaline than anything else you know. You definitely don't want to see anybody hurt to the extreme. So we wanted to get them here to safety," Craiglow said.
Craiglow and the first responder pulled the victims, who he described as an elderly couple and another man, to the dock. He says one of them was hurt pretty bad. "There were several abrasions on his face. He was bleeding. There was severe damage to his boat. So we brought him in first and we had paramedics waiting for us by the time we got in," Craiglow said.
The Ohio Department of Natural Resources is investigating the accident. A spokesperson says it's not clear how fast the boats were going. The victims were taken to the hospital. Their names and conditions have not been released.
