Guard's Family Upset after Inmate's Threats Go Unpunished
NEWARK (Ben Garbarek) -- A jail guard is afraid for her safety after she claims an inmate made repeated threats.
The inmate accused of making the threats is set to be released on Thursday. A statement written by the guard to the Licking County Sheriff's Department said the inmate repeatedly threatened to beat her up and sexually assault her.
Her family is upset because they said prosecutors have decided not to file any charges.
The guard has been working at the Licking County Justice Center for 13 years. Guards are used to insults, but her family said they've never experienced anything like this.
"This is completely over the top," the guard's wife Ken Monroe said. "I'll hear things where they call her names and stuff like this. Never have I heard threats to her person or anything like that. It just blows my mind."
We are not naming the inmate because he has not been charged yet. However, records show he has a history of assault and domestic violence.
The guard's statement said the inmate told her, "when I get outta here, I'm going to track you down and beat your face in."
"For me to think the city doesn't think he'll carry this out when he's done them repeatedly, it's just unbelieveable," Monroe said. "I just can't believe it."
We reached out to the prosecutor to find out why charges are not being filed. Our call and message to him was not returned.
