Chillicothe Bar Cited for Serving Driver Before Fatal Crash
CHILLICOTHE (Lu Ann Stoia/Ken Hines) -- A popular bar and restaurant has been cited by police in connection with a fatal crash that killed a local lawyer on Independence Day.
Jerry's Pizza West sold alcohol to Shira Seymour when she was already intoxicated, according to the Ohio Investigative Unit.
Annie Rooney, 36, died when her vehicle was hit head-on by Semour's car on US-50 on July 4.
Jerry's owner Tom Howison released footage to prosecutors that shows Seymour drinking alcohol at the business before the fatal crash, according to investigators.
Seymour's blood alcohol level was twice the legal limit on the night of the crash, leading authorities to issue a citation to Howison for his employee's decision to serve her despite her intoxication.
"We try to monitor alcohol intake with everyone, and try to keep a close eye on things, send the bartenders to school," Howison said.
Prosecutors say the waitress who served alcohol to Seymour is not expected to face charges due to her cooperation as a witness in the case.
Seymour, 36, is currently recovering from injuries sustained in the crash.
