Police Search for Driver in Overnight Pole Crash
COLUMBUS (Kellie Hanna) -- Police are searching for the driver that slammed into a power pole at 1735 Woodcrest Road.
The pole snapped into two pieces and Woodcrest Road was closed between Ivyhurst Drive and Livingston Avenue for several hours.
The crash happened about 2:30 a.m. Thursday and that's when the pole was severed and the driver ran from the scene.
The car was left at the scene, and police are continuing to investigate.
American Electric Power crews replaced the pole, power, and the light.
The intersection was reopened by approximately 5:30 a.m.
Fire crews were called to scene after the light could be seen smoking.
It was determined that a flare used at the scene was left smoking and ended up near the top of the light pole.
Police say no homes lost power, but the street lights were out for several hours.
