Man Escapes from Police in Handcuffs
NEWARK (Ben Garbarek) -- Police are looking for a man that ran away from police while still in handcuffs.
Christopher Williams, 19, is wanted in connection to several car break-ins around Newark.
He was pulled over near the Budget Inn on West Church Street Tuesday night. He was being questioned by police. People staying at the Budget Inn said Williams was lying to the cops, telling them he was staying at the inn. Williams tried to get one woman to pretend to be his girlfriend.
Police said Williams tried to convince officers his name was "Chris Franklestone". Moments later, cops said he bolted.
"Especially in a small town like this, it's just a matter of time (before we catch him)," said Sgt. Al Shaffer of the Newark Police Department. "(Williams) had a warrant and probably realized giving a false name wasn't going to do much good, so his next option was to flee."
Williams is no stranger to local police. He's had warrants out for his arrest because of previous assaults and robberies.
Williams was last seen wearing several coats. The outer layer was camou with a hoodie underneath. He was also wearing dark jeans and black slippers.
Anyone that sees Williams should call Newark Police.
