Parents Concerned About Groveport School Cuts
GROVEPORT (Jen French) Parents are concerned about recent cuts a district has been forced to make after a levy failed in May 2013. One parent hopes to gather enough signatures to petition for another vote.
This school year, Groveport Schools have been forced to scale back in music, physical education and art. Bussing has stopped for high school students.
Maria McGraw is on the committee for better schools and has three children.
"I know they're not required by the state--but I know I enjoyed those things. I want them to be available to my kids if they're interested," McGraw said.
McGraw thinks parents were confused by an emergency funding levy that passed in August 2012. Another levy was put on the May 2013 ballot because of state cuts.
The Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission has started a carpooling service called School Pool for high school students.
"This is just another opportunity for parents to make sure their children are arriving safely, Lynn Robinson said, MORPC ride solutions director.
