Child Injured in Fiery Semi Crash

MADISON COUNTY -- Investigators are working to determine what caused the driver of a semi to crash and burst into flames, injuring two people, including a small child.

The crash happened at around 9:45 p.m. Friday in the southbound lanes of I-71 near the 77 mile marker, which is just north of Jeffersonville.

Troopers with the Ohio State Highway Patrol say a child was transported to Nationwide Children's Hospital in Columbus with unknown injuries, and an adult was taken to Grant Medical Center in Columbus with unknown injuries.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

The highway was closed for about an hour while firefighters put out the flames.

The names of those involved were not immediately released.

As new information is released, we will update this story.
