141-Year-Old Reynoldsburg Business to Close Its Doors
REYNOLDSBURG (Ashley Yore/Ken Hines) -- The oldest business in Reynoldsburg is closing it's doors for good.
Connell Hardware, which has been a staple in the community for 141 years, is holding an auction Tuesday to sell any of its remaining items.
"I think the things are so interesting," customer Judy Ross said. "I'd like to bid on lots of things, I really would. It's really fun."
While the auction will be a treasure hunt for many, it will be a bittersweet moment for the Connell family, as the reality of closing sets in.
"Growing up here as a child, we were allowed to make change and start waiting on customers," Sarah Connell said. "When we could stand underneath the cash register, and the drawer would just sweep across the top of our head, he said that we were old enough then to make change and wait on customers."
For now, the Connell family will rent out part of their building to other businesses, but they have not determined the facility's ultimate fate.
"It is very emotional," Charity Connell said. "It's sad it's sad to see the oldest business in Reynoldsburg go out, so its a very emotional time right now."
