Bicyclist Critical After Hit-Skip Accident

COLUMBUS (Derek Drake) -- A passing motorcyclist's attentiveness may have saved the life of a bicyclist struck early Wednesday morning.

According to the Columbus Division of Police, a person was riding their bike on Woodland Avenue near Woodward Avenue when they were hit by a car. The car then left the scene.

Police believe the car that struck the bicyclist was a Volkswagen and should have significant damage to the front end. Early indications show the vehicle fled northbound from the crash scene.

Investigators believe the actions of a Good Samaritan motorcyclist may have saved the life of the bicyclist who lay on the side of the road with serious injuries. The motorcyclist stopped and called police and stayed by the person's side until medics arrived.

The victim was taken to Grant Medical Center in critical condition.

Police ask anyone with information about this accident to contact them at 614-645-4545.
