Worthington Dr. Indicted for Hitting Bicyclist While Driving Drunk

DELAWARE COUNTY (Ken Hines) -- A Worthington doctor accused of seriously injuring a bicyclist while driving drunk has been indicted by a grand jury.

Prosecutors say Dr. Elizabeth Unk's blood alcohol level was more than twice the legal limit on September 12, 2012, when she struck a bicyclist while driving on SR-23 near Green Meadows Dr. in Delaware Co.

The 38-year-old doctor is facing a felony count of aggravated vehicular assault, and two misdemeanor counts of driving under the influence of alcohol.

“It is never safe or okay to drink and drive," Delaware County Prosecuting Attorney Carol O’Brien said in a media release. "In this case, the defendant made the choice to get behind the wheel, resulting in multiple and devastating injuries for an innocent bicyclist.”

Unk's driver's license has been suspended. An arraignment date has not been set.
