UPS, FedEx Problems Delay Deliveries in Central Ohio
COLUMBUS (Ken Hines) -- Thousands of people were still waiting for Santa's arrival the day after Christmas because of problems with UPS and FedEx delivery services.
Customers across the country flooded the companies' phone lines and websites with complaints after failing to receive orders by Christmas, despite assurances that the delivery date would be met.
Spokespeople for both shipping giants attributed the delays to a combination of bad weather and increased demand due to a growth in online shopping.
The delay caused big problems for small businesswoman Cheryl Sher, who was unable to complete work on hundreds of chocolate-dipped wine bottles because her shipment of plastic linings failed to arrive.
"It changed a lot of things. I had people lined up Wednesday to work on them," Sher said. "Yesterday, Christmas Day, I had people to work on them, and now, today, were at a standstill."
Amazon officials will provide refunds on shipping costs -- and in some cases, gift cards -- to those affected by the delays. UPS officials have said they will likely wait until January to analyze the problem.
