Columbus School Bus Driver Pleads Guilty to On-Duty OVI

COLUMBUS (Ken Hines) -- A former Columbus City Schools driver has pleaded guilty to charges of driving drunk while children were on-board her bus.

Tia Denton pleaded guilty Monday to three charges, including operating a vehicle while impaired and endangering children. Denton was transporting two children via a district bus in South Columbus when she was stopped by police with a open container of alcohol in the vehicle on November 25.

Witnesses told police Denton was driving erratically before she was stopped.

Denton resigned from Columbus City Schools (CCS) on December 4 as district officials prepared for a hearing that would have likely resulted in her termination. She had worked for CCS for less than a year when she was arrested.

Denton, 51, is scheduled to be sentenced on February 4.
