Suspected Drug Activity Leads to Eviction, Criticism of Police in Chillicothe
CHILLICOTHE (Jen French/Ken Hines) -- A landlord posted a sign at his apartment complex reading, "Druggies Are Gone, No Thanks to Police", after the eviction of a tenant believed to have been engaging in illegal activity on the property.
Mike McCoy kicked the unidentified tenant out of the apartment at 110 E. 4th St. after installing security cameras at the complex.
"Sure enough I noticed a steady stream of druggies coming in and out, McCoy said.
McCoy claims to have called police to report his suspicions, but was told that officers could not enter the apartment without probable cause.
McCoy responded to that news with the eviction, followed by the posting of the sign, which he hopes will bring attention to the area's drug problem.
You haven't really solved the problem, McCoy said of the eviction. All you've done is move the problem a block-and-a-half down the street."
