COLUMBUS -- The Ohio State Club Crew team has been suspended because of an alleged hazing incident. Team members say the group is suspended until December 2014.
University officials told ABC 6/FOX 28 they can't comment about the incident that led to its investigation, but team members said the alleged hazing occurred in North Carolina while the team was on spring break.
A team member said new female rowers were told to wear "quirky" underwear over their uniforms during practice, while new male members had to wear t-shirts designed by upperclassmen.
The crew member said a new teammate complained to the university about the hazing after returning from the trip. The rower said the upperclassmen have been put on university probation until the end of the upcoming fall semester, and must complete seven hours of community service and write a seven-page research paper on hazing.
The university says the team can still appeal for another week.
