September 24, 2008 - SCIOTO ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
Nick asked: How much does the atmosphere weigh?
Jerrys answer: Although you might not think of air as having much weight, when you account for all the air over the entire planet, it adds up - to about 5 quadrillion metric tons!

October 1, 2008 - WINTERSET ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
Michael asked: How many different kinds of clouds are there?
Jerrys answer: Clouds are divided into 3 groups based on their height: low, middle and high. And within these 3 groups, there are at least 9 different categories based on the appearance of the clouds. On top of that, there are dozens of types of clouds that don't fit into any category so all told, there are over 100 types of clouds.

October 8, 2008 - ELGIN WEST ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
Michael asked: How much does a weather satellite weigh?
Jerrys answer: Weather satellites weigh about 2 1/2 tons! That's a lot of weight to keep over 2,000 miles above the surface of the Earth!

October 15, 2008 - TREE OF LIFE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
Jayla asked: How cold is the moon at night?
Jerrys answer: The moon has a much wider temperature range than the Earth. High temperatures during the day can be over 210°, while low temperatures at night (on the dark side of the moon) can drop to -279°! And you thought our winters were cold!

October 22, 2008 - CENTRAL COLLEGE CHRISTIAN ACADEMY
Emilie asked: How bright is lightning?
Jerrys answer: Lightning is 10 times brighter than looking directly at the sun and it is one million times brighter than your average 60W lightbulb!

October 29, 2008 - BLUFFSVIEW ELEMETARY
Morgan asked: What is the earliest measurable snowfall to occur in Columbus?
Jerrys answer: The earliest official record of snow on the ground was .1" on October 10, 1906. The earliest that Columbus had 1" of snow on the ground was October 22, 1925.

Jerrys answer: The word 'tornado' comes from the Spanish word 'tronada', which means thunder.

November 12, 2008 - FAIRBANKS ELEMETARY
Fox asked: Do tornadoes in the southern hemisphere spin opposite those in the northern hemisphere?
Jerrys answer: Yes. 99% of tornadoes in the northern hemisphere spin counterclockwise because the thunderstorms that form them spin counterclockwise. In the southern hemisphere, the reverse is true, with most twisters spinning clockwise.

November 19, 2008 - WEST FRANKLIN ELEMETARY
Sarah asked: Is it possible to stop a hurricane?
Jerrys answer: No. Ideas have ranged from using cooking oil, icebergs and bombs, but none are feasible when it comes to stopping a hurricane.

December 3, 2008 - TAYLOR ROAD ELEMETARY
Kaitlyn asked: What's the difference between the lowest temperature on Mars and the lowest temperature on Earth?
Jerrys answer: Jerrys answer: The lowest temperature recorded on Earth was -89C (-129°F) and the lowest temperatures measured on Mars was -123C (-190°F). That's a difference of 34C!

December 17 - MT. LOGAN ELEMENTARY
Shawn asked: What makes snow fall?
Jerrys answer: A single snowflake is actually made up of many, many ice crystals. At the right temperatures, the ice crystals bump into each other and grow. Once they are heavy enough, they begin to fall (at about 3 mph!) toward the ground. This happens quite a bit because even in an average snow storm, there are billions of snowflakes!
