Columbus Police Arrest 7 With Ties to Short North Posse
COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Seven people connected to the previous Short North Posse are reported busted Thursday, ABC6/FOX28 News' Steve Levine has learned.
The arrests happened during a recent round-up carried out by Columbus police officers. In all, 19 members of the gang, based from the Short North neighborhood located just north of downtown Columbus, have been indicted.
They've been charged with criminal gang activity, weapons charges and drug dealings in illegal substances, including marijuana, cocaine and heroin, ABC6/FOX28 News has learned.
Many of Thursday's arrests have ties to the original Short North Posse, which Columbus police broke up several years ago.
Franklin County Prosecutor Ron O'Brien said, "Many went to state and federal prison, many have gotten out; younger brothers have gotten involved in criminal activity"
The seven people recently arrested are expected to be in court next week. Until then, they will remain at the Franklin County Jail.
ABC6 News Steve Levine highlights local efforts to clean up crime in their neighborhoods.
