Gahanna Police Thank Public for Helping With Arrests
GAHANNA, Ohio -- Tips from the public helped Gahanna police arrest two suspects in a dry cleaners robbery, as well as issue an arrest warrant for a third, ABC6/FOX28 News learned Friday.
The arrests stem from a robbery at the Swan Cleaners, located in the 1200 block of North Hamilton Road, on Oct. 4. About two weeks later, on Oct. 20, the Gahanna Police Department turned to the local community and media in identifying one of the suspects believed to be in the get-a-way vehicle at the time of the robbery.
Police also requested help in identifying the suspect vehicle, as well.
On the following day, the Gahanna Police received a tip that led to the arrest of two suspects and issued an arrest warrant for another individual responsible for the robbery of Swan Cleaners.
Carla L. Spaulding, age 35, of 2203 McGuffey St. in Columbus, was arrested and charged with complicity to robbery; James L. Varney, age 21, of 3571 Cypress Club Way in Columbus, was arrested for aggravated robbery; and, an arrest warrant for complicity to aggravated robbery was issued for Richard D. Harrell, who remained at large as of Friday.
Gahanna officers located and impounded the vehicle that was used in the robbery, as well as the handgun, a Colt .25-caliber semi-automatic pistol that was used in the commission of the crime.
The Gahanna Police Department released a public statement thanking the media and the public for their help.
