Copper Theft Crime Alert
Crime Alert
For Release: September 10, 2010
Central Ohio Crime Stoppers is requesting the public's help in solving a Theft of Copper Wire from the downtown Columbus Scioto Mile project site.
Between the hours of 6:30pm on September 8, 2010 and 7:00am on September 9, 2010, copper wire was stolen from the Scioto Fountain portion of the Scioto Mile project located on Civic Center Dr. and Main St. The wire was laid directly on top of the ground and looped around all five fountains for the bonding system. The amount of cable stolen was approximately 1500 feet. Also, when this wire was taken, it was cut out and the suspect(s) also removed approximately 50 “T” cad welds. The theft of this wire is particularly problematic because the wire was produced especially for this riverfront revitalization project and will takes weeks for the manufacturer to produce more. Photos of the wire may be viewed on our website, www.stopcrime.org.
