After the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School, have your feelings about gun control changed?

100%

Comment: Im still a firm believer in that when guns are outlawed only outlaws will have guns. I'll guarentee you that if the shooter knew there was a possibility that the teachers were armed he would have thought twice about going in there. Just another case of guns are outlawed in schools therefore only an outlaw had a gun. If someone else had been allowed to have a gun, not as many would have been killed, if any at all. from Amesville OH by Tony

Comment: The president is correct in stating that we have to change in order to avoid this kind of tragedy. Does making stronger gun controls the answer? No. We have seen that we have some of the toughfest gun control laws in the world. Can this stop anybody from snapping and doing the unthinkable? No. A car, like a gun, is a tool. If used incorrectly it can kill and we see this more frequently than issues with guns, Are we going to stop driving? What needs to change is the HEART. The farther away we are from God, a a nation and individually, higher the chance of doing the most unthinkable acts. Let us focus on what the problem is and not the tool used. from Coshocton, OH by David

Comment: No it hasn't. What I think we need is parents spending more time with their children as they grow. I also believe that we need stricter controls on video and computer games that do not glorify killing police or unarmed citizens for kicks. As far as I see we have children that have no true perception of reality. Only a reality created by Hollywood, computer/video games and TV. What we got at Sandy Hook was a doze of parental and societal reality and it needs to change, not gun laws. We need to hire more police that can be in our school and protect children, not limit law abiding citizens that are punished for a very, very small few who have no real perception of reality! Are we going to ban cars and doctors? They cause more deaths per year then guns! That is if the media is willing to investigate those statistics. from Reynoldsburg, OH by Jeff

Comment: gun control isn't the problem. it's self control, something that no one kwows but the person that knows. by james

Comment: Guns don't kill people. It takes someone to pull the trigger. I think the teachers should be allowed to be armed so they can protect the children and themselves. from Reynoldsburg by Nicole

Comment: No my thoughts have NOT changed on the unconstitutional act of controlling guns.If the principal or anyone else had a sidearm NONE of those children would have died.Time to stop restricting guns of honest citizens! Gun control is the cause of more deaths than arming victims! from Stoutsville, Ohio by Scott

Comment: We need less restrictions. We as a nation have the right to arm and protect ourselves. This recent shooting, like all others, is tragic, but it's not worth giving up our right to bear arms. If the public is unarmed only criminals and the Government will have them, but I repeat myself. from Galloway, Oh by Patrick

Comment: The problem was not the availability of the guns, but, in my opinion, is a broken society that allows violent video games, violent movies, etc., that "babysit" our young people, instead of them going outside to interact with other children, they are permitted to just sit and absorb the senseless violence of "games" that change the way of thinking of a developing mind. from Bucyrus, Ohio by Melvin

Comment: I feel there should be more focus on the mental illness that cause people to do things like this.No sane person would do such a thing. I am also in favor of a qualified school employee having a gun to defend against such an attacker. from Nelsonville, ohio by Bill

Comment: I think semi auto weapons should be ban, there is no reason for anyone to have that tipe of gun except police and the milatary. from Columbus, Ohio by Rick

Comment: Teachers should obtain carry permit. A broken moral and non parental society will always breed evil and chaos. Guns don't kill people! people kill people from West Jeff,Ohio by Tim

Comment: Guns are not the problem - the problem is that these people who commit these horrific crimes have no respect for life to start with - this is the fault of parents and schools - growing up in the 60's this type of crime was unheard of - children could play anywhere in the neighborhood with out fear all day long - children today are imbued with total disregard for the sanctity (sp?) of life - they are seeing mayhem daily - even five year old children are seeing this because parents of today allow their children to watch inappropriate TV shows and movies - this country needs to get back to the basics of raising children with old fashioned values from Newark Ohio by Mark

Comment: My feelings on gun control remain the same. This tragedy was a mental health issue. Not a gun control issue. from Westerville, OH by Beau

Comment: Guns dont kill people, people kill people! i myself have a registered gun in my place for protection! from columbus ohio by Lynette

Comment: They need to start with gun shows. Anybody at all with cash can buy anything they want there. There must be more strigent regulations on these shows as well as in depth background checks as if they were being purchased at a legal gun store. from Mt Perry, Ohio by Dan

Comment: Absolutely needs to be some control and our mental health system needs some serious work as well from Columbus OH by Karen

Comment: No since sick people will figure out how to harm some other way. The problem is not the gun or its capacity. from Galion/Ohio by David

Comment: Specifically on military-style assault weapons, they should NEVER have been allowed to be sold to civilians. They should not be on the streets of any town in the U.S. Why in the world would anyone need to have that type of weapon? And these mass killings are the proof that these weapons should not be for sale! Unless you're fighting a war in the military, those weapons need not be on our streets. Common sense, please! from Grove City, OH by Cynthia
