Work on I-70 Exits to Hilliard Rome Road Postponed

COLUMBUS -- ODOT has postponed a project designed to ease traffic at busy Franklin County highway exits.
ODOT officials say a financial concern is causing the year-long delay in work on the exits from I-70 to Hilliard Rome Road. With so many nearby projects going on right now, officials worry the bids for the job will come in higher than expected.
Drivers told ABC 6/FOX 28 the possible budgetary issues should not prevent crews from making the necessary repairs to the exits.
"I think it's a huge bottleneck ," Karen Steffy said. "My parents live in Hilliard. I travel I-70 a lot, and it is always backed up."
"Too busy," added Chris Hutter. "Too many cars. Not enough space. Needs to be expanded."
When the project does begin -- which is now expected to occur in 2014 -- what was a two phase project will merge into one.
When the work is finished, both exits from I-70 onto Hilliard Rome Road will be expanded.
