Was Hollywood Casino'ÂÂs Location a Good Bet?

COLUMBUS - - It’s been around four months since Hollywood Casino opened its doors, and many are convinced its West Side location was a bad bet.
After a strong opening, the casino's revenue has slipped to a point that falls below several expectations.
The slide has led many central Ohioans to question the decision to build the hotel on Georgesville Road in West Columbus instead of a proposed site near the Arena District.
Alan Silver, a professor specializing in Restaurant, Hotel and Tourism at Ohio University agrees that the Downtown location would have likely been more profitable, but says the casino can be a success at its current spot -- if operators build a hotel.
“Once a property has a hotel, it’s more powerful,” Silver said.
Hollywood Casino operators have said they plan to build a hotel during the second phase of the project.
Until then, Silver says, “It’s just too early to tell whether this location will work.”
