COLUMBUS -- A Franklin County Judge sentenced Valerie Windom to three years behind bars.
Windom is charged in the deaths of her daughters. The two were killed in December, 2011 in an apartment fire.
Investigators say Windom was drunk while she was cooking food on the stove and then fell asleep.
In court, Windom’s 13-year-old daughter urged the judge to send her mom to jail.
Trinity Brown said, “I feel she is to blame because if she wasn’t drinking, my sisters would still be alive. I just want my mom to get the help she needs.”
Brown says she loves her mother and hopes she can change.
Windom told the judge in court, “this whole tragedy has been hard and I can’t apologize enough. I’m sorry for what I’ve done.”
