THE FOOTBALL FEVER: OSU AD Gene Smith on Ticket Prices, Employee Salaries

COLUMBUS -- OSU is raising ticket prices to help fund its athletic department, while more than 50 of that department's workers pull in 6-figure salaries.
Documents obtained by ABC 6/FOX 28 show the school's 298 full-time athletic dept. employees earn an average of $82,293 in salary -- a total of $24,523,487.
Of those 298 employees, 56 make more than $100,000 in base salary per year, including athletic director Gene Smith ($840,484), assistant football coach Luke Fickell ($750,000), men's basketball coach Thad Matta ($602,004), and head football coach Urban Meyer ($450,000) -- although the yearly compensation packages of Meyer ($4 million) and Matta ($3.2 million) far exceed their base salaries.
