Suspected Drunk Driver Caught After Pursuit and Foot Chase

NEW HOLLAND, OH -- The Fayette County Sheriff says the suspect who initiated a wild chase throughout the county is in custody.
It all started at around 6:30 p.m. in the area of U.S. 22 and Bogus Rd.
According to Sheriff Vernon Stanforth, deputies were making a routine traffic stop of a van. The driver couldn't produce an ID, so as the deputy was running the plates, they say the driver sped off. The Sheriff says they believe the driver may have been drunk.
The pursuit went up and down several rural roads before ending in a field in the area of Clemens Rd. and White Rd. SE. near New Holland. However, the chain of events didn't end there.
Sheriff Stanforth says the suspect got out of the van and took off on foot, starting a chase that involved K-9 officers.
After more than an hour and a half of searching, a Pickaway County Sheriff Deputy found the suspect in New Holland and took him into custody without incident.
The Sheriff says no vehicles were struck during the pursuit, and it's not yet known what charges the suspect faces. His name hasn't been released yet.
