Suspect Shot by Police After Foot Chase

COLUMBUS -- Columbus Police are investigating an early morning officer-involved shooting on the city's southwest side.
According to officials on scene, a sergeant was patrolling the neighborhood in the area of Demorest Road and Eakin Road when he spotted Anthony Trussell, 28, on a motorized bike. The officer pulled Trussell over for an unknown traffic violation. When the officer ran Trussell's information, a warrant was found for Trussell on a probation violation.
When the officer approached Trussell to arrest him he ran. Officers swarmed the area looking for the Trussell with assistance from the Columbus Police Helicopter.
Trussell was located in a shed in the rear of 871 W Stephen Drive about 2 blocks away from where he was initially stopped.
The officer who found Trussell fired one shot, striking Trussell in the arm.
Trussell was taken to Mount Carmel West Hospital in stable condition. The officer was uninjured in the incident.
According to Columbus Police Public Information Officer, Sgt. Richard Weiner, no weapon was found on the suspect.
The shooting remains under investigation. As we receive more information, we will update this story.
