COLUMBUS -- The dating scene is no longer just for young people. More men and women in their so-called golden years are searching for that special someone online.
Linda Barkoff is sixty-five years old and back on the dating scene, "I'm hoping that I can find someone. I like to go out and dance. I like to see movies. I like to go out and eat." Three years ago Linda’s husband died of leukemia. She says, "You have to go on, that's what they would want you to do."
The Association of American Retired People helps people like Linda with a new dating website. AARP Senior Vice President of Strategy and Operations, Sami Hassanyeh, says, "We're trying to create more of a feeling that you're not alone in this.” One fourth of the organization’s thirty-seven million members are single.
The AARP site offers dating advice from how to act on a first date to where to go and things to do. Members log on and click on a picture if they’re interested.
Linda says, "I'm not dead yet, so there might be a spark there or two."
