COLUMBUS -- A man fed up with thieves breaking into his truck goes against police recommendations and leaves his doors unlocked.
Joe Palmer says his truck has been targeted at least a dozen times in the last two years on Starr Avenue in the Short North.
He's had to shell out about $800 to repair three shattered windows.
Tired of spending money, Palmer decided to remove his valuables and just keep his doors unlocked.
"For a while it was happening like once a week so I'd rather they take whatever change they want and be on their way," said Palmer.
In the month of February, there were 34 thefts from cars reported in the Short North area according to a crime report released by the Short North Block Watch.
Palmer says the crooks go around and try car doors until they find one unlocked or just smash out windows.
