COLUMBUS – Two men are locked up after officers say they drove up on an robbery that they believe was the fourth in an overnight string.
Brent Lilley and Steven Mink are both charged with aggravated robbery after police say they caught the two beating on a man at Cleveland Avenue and Abington Drive around 3:30am Wednesday as the victim was riding his bike home from work.
According to court documents, the two drove past victim Thomas Gooden and then circled back.
The two reportedly “put a gun to the victim’s head and demanded his property.” When Gooden refused, police say the suspects started punching and kicking him.
Police believe the suspects are responsible for three other robberies early Wednesday but did not indicate which ones.
ABC6/FOX28 dug through the police reports in that time frame ad discovered James Westfall, 31, was robbed at gunpoint and hour earlier in Clintonville.
"I was in shock.. I didn't move. I had no money on me," said Westfall. "He was like, ‘Empty your pockets man.. empty your pockets.’ I was like, ‘You're going to have to shoot me because I don't have anything.’"
Westfall said he was walking to the store which is four blocks from his home and was jumped at High Street and Tulane Road by several men.
He said one spotted him, whistled to the others who were in a car and they all dug through his pockets while beating and kicking him.
It left Westfall with a black eye, fractured cheek and cuts to his ear that needed 13 stitches.
"These are just young kids. They don't have a clue," said Westfall.
The judge set bonds for both Lilley and Mink Thursday at $200,000 each.
They’re expected to face more charges when their cases go before a grand jury.
