COLUMBUS -- One suspect is in custody after a brief high-speed chase and foot chase on James Road. Three others were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
A section of James Road south of Broad Street was shut down for this investigation.
Police say it started as a DUI check on a green SUV. Police say the car hit a cruiser then sped down the road. Pursuing officers caught up, conducting a pit maneuver, sending the car into a telephone pole.
Police say two people were ejected from the car and another continued to run from officers after the crash.
According to Sgt. Rich Weiner, a police officer did discharge a weapon during the foot chase but it is unclear at this point whether the officer was firing at a suspect or if the weapon malfunctioned.
The foot chase led officers to a nearby home. According to Columbus Police, the suspect broke into that home at which point officers took him into custody.
Four people, including the suspect, were taken to Grant Medical Center. An officer was treated on scene with minor injuries.
Charges are pending further investigation.
