One Dead in Fairfield County Accident

BERNE TOWNSHIP -- The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating an early morning accident that claimed the life of one person.

According to troopers, the accident occurred in the 5800 block of Bremen Road east of Lake Road, southeast of Lancaster.

The Lancaster Post of the Highway Patrol got a call about 4:50 a.m. Wednesday from a passerby reporting the crash.

An investigation into the actual time of the crash is underway.

Troopers day that 25-year-old Shane Mehic of Junction City was traveling westbound on Bremen Road when he lost control of his car.

Mehic drove off the roadway, the car went airborne, and struck a creek bed.

Shane Mehic was pronounced dead at the scene by the Fairfield County Coroner's Office.

Speed and alcohol are suspected to be a factor in this fatal crash.

The crash remains under investigation.
