No Furlough-Related Rise in Delays at Port Columbus on Monday

Updated: Monday, April 22 2013, 07:41 PM EDT
COLUMBUS -- Unlike airports in other major U.S. cities, furloughs of federal aviation employees have not resulted in a significant spike in delays at Port Columbus.

Roughly a third of the Federal Aviation Administration's 47,000 employees were off the job Monday -- casualties of budget cuts related to the recent sequestration.

Travelers in New York, Dallas, Atlanta, and Los Angeles experienced flight slow-downs after the furloughs went into effect, though officials can not say with certainty that the delays are related to the cuts.

Port Columbus officials told ABC 6/FOX 28 the furloughs had no noticeable impact on the airport, which experienced a typical number of flight delays on Monday.
